Disable Pocket’s Trending Stories on Chrome

Pocket is one of the apps that I often use in my everyday life both on Google Chrome and on mobile devices. In the last days, a new update for the Pocket Chrome extension carried a minor change in the new Chrome tab.

When you open a new Chrome tab, there are proposed articles (Trending Stories / Topics) from Pocket that you “must” read as you can see in the picture below.

Personally, I don’t like this feature. I want my environment as “clean” as possible and in this case, it’s Chrome. If I want to see proposed articles, I open the Pocket application to see them there. There is no need to distract me every time I open a new tab.

If you have already installed the extension Save to Pocket in Google Chrome and you want to disable these Trending Stories / Topics, the process is quite easy as you’ll see in the steps below.

Right click on the icon of your Pocket in the upper right corner of Chrome, then select Options in the menu that appears.

In the Pocket’s settings tab, uncheck the setting Show stories and topics in my new tab.

That’s it! Now, when you open a new tab in Chrome there won’t be any trending stories or articles from Pocket.

Do you use Pocket in your daily life?
